Do you know what I know?
Goodness and Light - Foil Mosiac
"Do You Hear What I Hear?" is probably my favorite Christmas song, because it tells a story and paints such a vivid picture. I love to hear Whitney Houston sing it, God rest her soul. Check it out at: http://youtu.be/svo17Dgs3PM.
One year my art students were working on foil mosaics for a Christmas project. I like to keep sharp in my skills for teaching, so I made a foil mosaic painting, also. I decided to do it of Mary and Jesus as a baby, with a star and an angel. It turned out so well and so beautifully that the only way I can describe it is that it seemed holy. In other words, I know I didn't create this on my own. God helped me. How do I know this? Because I'm not even sure how I did it.
I loved it so much that I photographed it for our family Christmas card that year. And when I looked at the photo, something miraculous had happened to it. It...well...it glowed. The light in the photo made the star glow and reflect on the picture in a way that you can not see when you look at it in person.
This may not seem like the biggest miracle, but it brought me to my knees that day. The original mosaic painting hangs on the wall in my studio all year long, and I am looking at it right now. I still love it. And to this day I don't know exactly what happened or how God did what He did with it. God is mysterious, isn't He? But, as one of my favorite pastors always says, this is what I know: I know He came as a child to, "...bring us goodness and light."
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
